Porcelain is the tile most UAE projects end up choosing once the shortlisting is done, and the reason is simple: it handles heat, water and heavy footfall better than almost anything else at the price. It is pressed from refined clay and fired well above 1200°C, so the body comes out dense, hard and barely porous. That density is what lets a single material run from a villa majlis floor to a hotel lobby to an outdoor terrace baking in July.
At Volark Tiles we supply porcelain across the full size range, from compact 600 x 600 mm floor tiles up to 1600 x 3200 mm large-format panels, in matt, glossy and lappato finishes. We are based in Sharjah and deliver across the Emirates, and we keep physical samples so you are not buying off a screen. The sizes below each open their own page.
Size changes the whole feel of a floor. Smaller formats suit bathrooms and busy wet areas where you want more grip lines; larger formats give that seamless, fewer-grout-lines look designers ask for. Quick guide:
| Format (mm) | Best suited for |
| 600 x 600 mm | All-rounder for floors, bathrooms, balconies |
| 800 x 800 mm | Living rooms and larger residential floors |
| 600 x 1200 mm | Feature walls and modern floors |
| 800 x 1600 mm | Open-plan spaces, fewer grout lines |
| 1200 x 2400 mm & 1600 x 3200 mm | Large-format panels for lobbies, walls and worktops |
This is where most people get stuck, so a quick steer:
Matt — non-reflective, hides marks and footprints, the safe default for floors and family homes. Easiest to keep looking clean.
Glossy — bounces light around, makes a room feel bigger and more premium, great on walls and low-traffic areas. Shows water spots faster, so we usually steer people away from glossy on bathroom floors.
Lappato (semi-polished) — the middle ground that has become very popular here. Some sheen, more grip than full gloss, looks expensive without being slippery.
In a country where pool decks and outdoor majlis areas get wet and stay hot, slip rating matters more than colour. The quick rule we give customers:
R9 – dry indoor floors, bedrooms, living rooms.
R10 – bathrooms, kitchens, entrances.
R11 – pool surrounds, terraces, anywhere that gets wet underfoot. We always recommend R11 for outdoor and wet zones, regardless of how good a lower-rated tile looks in the sample.
Porcelain’s water absorption sits below 0.5%, so it does not soak up moisture, swell or harbour bacteria the way more porous materials can. That is the technical reason it works indoors and out.
The 1200 x 2400 mm and 1600 x 3200 mm panels get a lot of attention, and for good reason. Fewer grout lines means a calmer, more continuous surface, which is exactly the look high-end villas and showrooms want right now. They also work as wall cladding, vanity tops and even kitchen worktops.
The honest caveat: large-format needs an experienced fitter and a properly levelled substrate, otherwise lippage shows. If your contractor has not handled big panels before, tell us and we will talk you through what to check. A client in Al Khan went with 1600 x 3200 panels across a double-height wall last year and the difference versus a standard tiled wall was night and day — but it only worked because the fixing was done right.
Floors — scratch and abrasion resistance handles sand, foot traffic and furniture. See our living room and bedroom options.
Walls and bathrooms — low absorption makes porcelain a clean choice for wet walls. Browse bathroom tiles.
Outdoor — UV-stable, so it will not fade under the sun. Pair with an R11 finish for outdoor areas and pool decks.
Commercial — high PEI ratings and full-body options take heavy footfall in retail, hospitality and offices. See commercial tiles.
Full size range in stock — from 600 x 600 mm up to 1600 x 3200 mm large-format, in one place.
Real samples — we hold physical samples at our Sharjah base so you can check the colour and finish in person before committing.
Delivery across the UAE — Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and the northern emirates.
Straight advice — tell us the room, the traffic and the budget and we will point you at the right format, finish and slip rating instead of upselling.
Are porcelain tiles suitable for outdoor use in the UAE?
Yes. Low water absorption and high UV resistance make porcelain ideal for the UAE climate. For pool decks and wet areas, choose an R11 slip rating.
What is the difference between porcelain and ceramic tiles?
Porcelain is fired hotter and denser, with water absorption below 0.5%, so it is harder, less porous and better for floors and outdoor use. Ceramic is lighter and usually cheaper, better suited to low-traffic walls.
Which porcelain size should I choose?
For most residential floors, 600 x 600 mm or 800 x 800 mm is the practical pick. For open-plan or premium spaces, go large-format (800 x 1600 mm and up).
Do porcelain tiles need sealing?
Generally no. Their low porosity means most porcelain does not require sealing, though the grout sometimes benefits from it in wet areas.
Can porcelain be used on walls as well as floors?
Yes. Lighter and large-format porcelain works well on feature walls, bathrooms and even as cladding and worktops.
Do you deliver outside Sharjah?
